HIMSS
Pam
Matthews, FHIMSS, serves as the Sr. Director of Business
Information systems for the Healthcare Information and Management
Systems Society (HIMSS). As part of the Industry Affairs
team, she directs the Society’s initiatives in the
areas related to RHIOs, HIEs, state level HIE initiatives,
financial and business services, and related technology.
Ms. Matthews supports both the Healthcare Information Exchange
(HIE) Steering Committee and the Financial Systems Steering
Committee within the HIMSS community membership. In addition,
she supports HIMSS’ external relationships and affiliations
with eHealth Initiatives, Internet2, and CAQH CORE initiatives.
Prior to joining HIMSS in 2006, Ms. Matthews served five
years in the role of CIO of a private healthcare provider
supporting 88 locations nationwide. She has over twenty
five years experience in health care with the last fifteen
in information systems. Prior to serving in role of CIO,
Ms. Matthews worked for KPMG Peat Marwick and Superior Consultant
Company focused on healthcare information technology (IT),
strategic planning, system selections, IT department operations
and governance. Additional work areas in both firms included
assessments and business strategy work for venture capitalist
clients and other healthcare industry clients. Prior to
consulting, Ms. Matthews worked at various healthcare providers
in the IT Department including Emory University and Promina
Healthcare Systems. Ms. Matthews is a Registered Nurse with
a bachelors in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business
Administration.
She is Fellow of HIMSS and has served in various capacities
within HIMSS including HIMSS Vice Chair, HIMSS Board of
Directors member, HIMSS Foundation Chair and Council member.
She has served in various other HIMSS committees and workgroup
at both the national level and the state HIMSS chapter level.
Ms. Matthews makes numerous presentations and has frequently
written articles on topics related to healthcare information
systems and technology, strategic planning, clinical practice
automation and healthcare globalization. Her last presentation
was October 17, 2006, at the 2nd Nationwide Health Information
Network Forum as a co presenter on the topic “Auditing
Data Access.”
