R. Morrow, M.D., VP and CIO,
North Fulton Family Medicine
VP
and CIO of North Fulton Family Medicine, a ten-doctor, four-location
family practice in metro-Atlanta. Winner of a 2004 HIMSS
Primary Care Davies Award for Implementation of his EHR,
Dr. Morrow has presented to national audiences on numerous
occasions, including the HIMSS Annual Conference and the
American Health Quality Association.
Dr. Morrow was recognized as the 2006 Physician IT Leader
of the Year by HIMSS at their Annual Conference in New Orleans
in February, 2007.
Dr.
Morrow was recently appointed as a commissioner to the Certification
Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT)
and also serves HIMSS as a member of the Ambulatory Davies
Selection Committee, the Ambulatory Information Systems
Steering Committee, the Katrina’s Phoenix Task Force,
and is chairman of the Practice Leadership Task Force. He
also serves as HIT mentor to the Common Ground Clinic in
the greater New Orleans area, a free clinic started post-Katrina
to care for the indigent in that area.
Dr.
Morrow serves on the board of directors of the Medical Association
of Georgia’s Institute for Excellence. In 2005, he
founded a healthcare consulting firm, Healthcare Quality
Technology & Research, Inc. and is developing clients
involved in the implementation and advancement of healthcare
information technology.
Married
in April, 2006, Dr. Morrow lives in Cumming, Georgia, with
wife, Kim, and children Lyndsay and Nicholas, 11. In his
spare time, he enjoys tailgating at Clemson football, woodworking,
landscaping, writing, boating, and playing jazz guitar and
piano.

Kathryn
(Katie) Smith, Project Director, Emory Healthcare
Diane
Turcan is a former CEO and Nurse Executive for Mercy
Health, with over twenty years experience in the development
of advanced information technology applications and
solutions for healthcare. She directed BellSouth’s
vertical healthcare marketing program for the past
ten years, and now leads the development of product
and application solutions, strategic marketing, and
alliance programs for the medical industry at AT&T.
Before joining BellSouth, Diane was Vice President
of Sales and Marketing for Telemedical Systems Integration,
a consulting firm specializing in telemedicine, information
technology, and online services for the healthcare
industry. Prior to that, she led development of Sprint’s
healthcare industry marketing program and global Healthcare
Application and Network Delivery System.
Diane is well known for her pioneering work developing
telehealth applications and medical information networks,
and is currently working with states and health information
exchange organizations on the development of ehealth
and telemedicine networks. She holds a patent for health
information systems and has seven pending patents for
healthcare information technology. Diane has been instrumental
in the development of leading telemedicine networks,
including the Department of Defense Medical Diagnostic
Imaging System Teleradiology network and the Western
New York Telemedicine network which received the 1994
ComputerWorld-Smithsonian Innovative Use of Technology
in Medicine award.
Recognition of her leadership in health information technology
and telehealth includes 2004 Woman of the Year in Technology
and 2000 Who’s Who in Telemedicine. Diane is on
the board of the North Carolina Healthcare Information
and Communications Alliance, is a member of HIMSS and
a charter member of the American Telemedicine Association
and Center for Health Transformation.
Diane earned her BS in Nursing and BBA in Marketing from
the University of Florida, and received her MS in Nursing
and MBA in Health Care Management from Northern Illinois
University.

Kathryn
(Katie) Smith is a project director for the implementation
of Emory Healthcare’s electronic medical record.
Emory Healthcare is an integrated academic healthcare
system committed to caring for their patients and their
families, educating healthcare professionals for the
future, pursuing discovery research and clinical innovation
and serving our community. The clinical arm of the Woodruff
Health Sciences Center of Emory University, Emory Healthcare
is the largest, most comprehensive health care system
in the state of Georgia.
As a project director for Emory Healthcare’s electronic
medical record implementation, Katie has directed the
implementation of the EMR in The Emory Clinic, an 800
physician multi-specialty practice. Previous roles with
Emory Healthcare have included project director for the
redevelopment of the Emory Crawford Long Hospital in
midtown Atlanta and director of operations and clinical
improvement for the hospitals. Ms. Smith is a fellow
of HIMSS, has previously served as Vice-President of
the National HIMSS board and received the Management
Engineer of the Year award (1995) from the society. Katie
is a graduate of the Health Systems program at the Georgia
Institute of Technology.

Robert
Connely, President/CEO, Novo Innovations, Inc.
Robert
is a dynamic business leader, innovator, and visionary
with over 25 years of experience in healthcare information
and networking technology. He co-founded Novo in 2003
to pioneer the use of intelligent software agents to
meet the challenges of information exchange and interoperability
between hospitals, physicians and others in the healthcare
community.
Prior
to Novo, Robert was a senior technology leader at McKesson
and recognized expert
in portal and integration
technologies. While there, he was responsible for the
invention of several successful products that are used
by hospitals and physicians across the US today. He
has spoken extensively about emerging technologies
and how
they can be used to address challenges and improve performance.
