Overview: The current and future stages of Meaningful Use and emerging mHealth technologies will require changes in practice, roles and delivery of care. Accountable care and emerging technologies will require administrators, clinicians, patients and consumers to embrace new ways of thinking, new ways of organizing and delivering care, and new roles. This presentation will push beyond the focus on implementation of technology, to clinicians using just-in-time evidence for practice, and for patients and consumers learning to use real-time evidence for change in behavior. In many cases these changes are already happening, but the question is are health care providers and systems really ready? This presentation, although titled nursing informatics will be applicable to all disciplines and roles within a health care delivery system that is in the midst of an historic culture change!

Presentation Topic: Becoming Meaningful Users: Helping Physicians Meet Current and Future MU Standards
Overview: The Meaningful Use incentive program is now well into its first year of operation and we are starting to see physicians applying for their bonus payments. However, there have still been many trials and tribulations suffered by those currently, or planning to, participate in the program. Also, with the advent of ACOs developing, it is even more imperative that physicians move ahead with becoming Meaningful Users. We will review the MU Stage one requirements, discuss proposed Stage 2 requirements, examine how well vendors are delivering MU capable products, what are some of the major pitfalls encountered along the way and what are some options available for physicians who still wish to participate. This session will be presented by the Chief Medical Officer of Covisint.

Presentation Topic: The Promise of IBM's Watson in Healthcare
Overview: IBM's "Watson" technology is best known for its application in competing with the world's best "Jeopardy!" players earlier this year. In this session, Dr. Marty Kohn will discuss how healthcare information technology based on "Watson's" deep, knowledge-based analytics can help improve the quality and efficiency of patient care. The discussion will focus on improving diagnosis and treatment, empowering the patient/member and streamlining utilization management processes. The session will also examine the interaction between "Watson" and electronic medical records, e-health, and other analytic healthcare IT solutions.

Presentation Topic: Creating a Technical Infrastructure for an Accountable Care Organization (ACO)
Overview: ACOs face enormous challenges in that they migrate from a paradigm of a fragmented, transactional based healthcare system to one in which they are managing the risk of a population. In doing so, they must manage the patient experience and coordinate care across an array of providers and caregivers in multiple settings, with each new step in the process depending on reliable communication and data. This session will be presented by the Chief Medical Officer of ICA. Areas the session will cover include:
· Description of an paradigm shift required for ACO development
· Current state of ACO development and overview of regulations
· The technology infrastructure components associated with managing risk
· The difference between Patient Portability Models and Patient Centric Models play an important role in ACO HIT infrastructure |

Topic: Nursing Informatics: Where Technology and Caring Meet
Overview: The TIGER Initiative (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) began as an initiative driven by the nursing profession because nursing informatics leaders knew that the nursing profession was not ready for the 2014 deadline that all Americans would have an electronic health record (EHR). This grass-roots movement has addressed developed reports and recommendations related to the competencies (by all health professions), usability and clinical design, standards and interoperability, and the difficult task of educating the current and future workforce (through faculty development and changes in education), patients, consumers and policy makers in order to achieve this goal. When Meaningful Use came along - TIGER became much more interdisciplinary and shifted into high gear to develop the structures and processes for a nationally available TIGER Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which embraces the principles of Wikinomics. TIGER recently announced it's connection to HIMSS as The TIGER Initiative Foundation and is moving forward with a refreshed vision in concert with national changes in a Health IT driven health care delivery system. This presentation will highlight the value of TIGER to all health care groups from the IT/IS department, clinicians, CNO's CEO's and those involved in the Health Information Exchanges and the Regional Extension Centers who are already involved as TIGER partners!
